Guys Would Rather Give Up Football Than Sex! (And, No, It’s Not Opposite Day)

I’ve never dated a football fan. So I don’t know how it really is for a football widow. My best friend is married to a Dallas Cowboys’ fan and when the game is on (any game), he’s tuned in. And if the Cowboys are playing, the house could be on fire, there could be Dallas Cheerleaders dancing on his coffee table—and his hot wife could be making out with them—and he’d tell her to stop blocking the TV.

That’s why I was a bit perplexed by a recent statistic from Wet, a line of intimacy products, that says that “90 percent of participants indicated that they would rather skip the NFL’s championship game than abstain from sex for one month.”

I don’t even care for football (actually not true, I like Friday Night Lights’ version of football—cut and spliced with Tim Riggins for my viewing pleasure). So it’s no contest that I’d choose sex over football—or any sport for that matter—but I have a hard time believing that a die-hard fan would give up a big game. It’s not like you can DVR it and watch it later. That kind of defeats the point, don’t ya think?

Here’s a stat that I don’t find that surprising: “Almost 65 percent of participants said that they’ve tried to lure their partner away from watching a big game in exchange for some romantic activity.” Now this I can believe. I read that there’s only 11 minutes of actual playing time in a football game, and given that a game is on for over two hours, that’s plenty of time to get in a little nookie. And, you don’t even have to miss out on any commercials.

Are you a football fan or widow? Would you give up sex for a month over watching big game? Do you think your man would? Have you ever used your feminine wiles to drag him away from the TV?
